For eleven years, The Commune improv group has built a steady following in their tiny Brooklyn Theater. The group has a close, family like relationship, but they all have the same dream – to make it big as a comedian. Their relationship is tested when Jack (Keegan Michael-Key) and Samantha (Gillian Jacobs) are invited to audition for Weekend Live, and Jack wins a spot on the show. The group’s future is further jeopardized when the building their theater is in is sold. Now, each of them is questioning not only their place in the group, but also whether they have what it takes to make it in show biz.
This is a nice little film that takes you backstage into the world of improv comedy. Written by Mike Birbiglia (who also plays Miles, the founder of the group), the movie not only showcases the talents of the comedians in it, but also does a great job of connecting with its audience. Rated R. Also featuring: Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher, and Chris Gethard.
