It’s a lovely summer evening in Amsterdam, and two couples are meeting to talk over dinner. Paul, an unemployed teacher, and Serge, a candidate in the next election for Prime Minister, along with their wives manage to start the evening off politely enough, engaging in small talk and discussing movies, wine – everything but the very thing they’ve met to discuss. As dinner progresses through five courses, the tension grows as we learn more about each of the characters, and the reason for this meeting.
I can’t tell you too much more without spoiling the plot, but trust me when I tell you that you’ll devour this book in one sitting! Dark humor, taut suspense, numerous plot twists, and some characters you’re going to love to hate make this story a very delectable treat. If you liked Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, this book just might whet your appetite.
