This new book by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet is fast paced and sure to please even reluctant teen readers. Witch and Wizard is the story of Whit and Wisty Allgood, teenage brother and sister, who suddenly find their world changed. The New Order (N.O.) has taken over and they are arresting anyone who doesn’t fit the mold of their rigid society, especially young people who may have magical powers. Whit and Wisty are arrested and taken to a horrible prison filled with children, but they soon discover they have magical powers. Their parents always said they were special, but they had no idea they were a witch and wizard.
As Whit and Wisty learn to what they can do and control their powers, they escape from prison and meet up with other children determined to fight the N.O. and release all the children from prison. Whit and Wisty also desperately want to find their parents. But the N.O. is also determined to find the entire Allgood family and have them executed.
This was a light, fun read and the first in the series. The ending definitely makes you wonder what will happen next. I’m sure fans of Patterson’s Maximum Ride series will enjoy this one too.
